Project Description

Reduction of Beam Lateral Bracing Analysis

Since a plastic hinge does not form in the beam, beam stability is much less of an issue for DuraFuse Frames; whereas, other moment frames require beam bracing to meet this requirement. DuraFuse Frames conducted all tests with no bracing other than at the actuator and have demonstrated great performance.

For example, this W21x50 beam would require lateral bracing every 5 feet for other moment connections, but with a DuraFuse Frame connection, an impressive 15.5 foot span was easily accommodated.
